Friar is trying to encourage Romeo to man up to whatever punishment lies in store for him for trying to marry Juliet . Romeo finds out from Friar that his punishment is banishment  . To leave Verona never returning to the city . Romeo feels like that punishment is worse than death because he has to live without his family and completely give up his identity as a montague . Worst yet is he has to live without his true love never seeing Juliet again .
